RANCHO CORDOVA, Sacramento County — Rancho Cordova says it is using a technology called City Detect to make its neighborhood property-condition surveys more efficient. The city described the new process in an August 5, 2026 update.
Images analyzed by the technology can flag potential code concerns, but the city says a code enforcement officer still reviews photographs to decide whether a violation occurred. Officials say a survey that once required months can now be completed in days. The approach is presented as supporting the city’s education-first work with residents, rather than automatic punishment by a computer system.
Why human oversight matters
An AI-generated flag is not the same as a verified code violation. Residents receiving a city notice should check the alleged condition, available assistance programs and how to contact code enforcement. The city refers to support options including Good Neighbor Assistance and tree or stump removal.
